Lesson 3 | What are the requirements for this course? |
Objective | What do you need for database creation? |
Database Creation Course Requirements
Software
For the fullest learning experience, which includes all of the exercises, we recommend you have the Oracle11g or high version such as Oracle 12c database server software.
Oracle 12c software for Windows can be downloaded from the following link.
Download Oracle 12c
The cost for this is minimal. Oracle supplies the trial version for several different platforms.
This course has been designed to provide value for students who do not have access to the software, as well. You will find simulations in
many of the lessons that enable people who do not have software to practice working with an Oracle database.
Oracle Data Mining (ODM)
Oracle Data Mining (ODM) is a software product distributed as an option to Oracle Corporation's Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) Enterprise Edition (EE). This product supports a collection of data mining and data analysis algorithms for classification, prediction, regression, clustering, associations, feature selection, anomaly detection, feature extraction, and specialized analytics.
Internet Resources
There are a number of Internet-based resources that every DBA should know about. Usenet (USEr NETwork) is a global, distributed Internet discussion system that evolved from a general purpose UUCP network of the same name. It was conceived by Duke University graduate students Tom Truscott and Jim Ellis in 1979.
Users read and post e-mail-like messages (called "articles") to a number of distributed newsgroups, categories that resemble bulletin board systems in most respects.
The medium is distributed among a large number of servers, which store and forward messages to one another.
Individual users download and post messages to a single server, usually operated by their ISP or university, and the servers exchange the messages between each other.
Documentation and Reference Material
If at all possible, make sure that you have access to an Oracle11g documentation set.
Any Oracle11g distribution CD for Windows will contain the complete documentation set in HTML form. If not you can download the PDFs directly from Oracle. You can complete this course without the manuals, but you will not go very far as a database administrator without them.
